Beautiful | Timeless | Romantic
For most couples being photographed is a brand new, often times intimidating experience. This guide is designed to walk you through the process, answer many of the questions you may have, and hopefully put you and your fiance at ease, reassuring you that you are in good hands with Brian, knowing that he is more than equipt to make you feel and look amazing!
Now is a good time to decide what kind of a look you want for your shoot. Do you want a formal urban look? A casual, mountain, beach look? Or perhaps a combination of Both!
Need inspiration? Please feel free to visit my Blog on my website, and search under "Engagements."
Photography is a way of feeling, of touching, of loving. What you have caught on film is captured forever… It remembers little things, long after you have forgotten everything.
– Aaron Siskind
Deciding between urban, beach, mountains, park, etc. for your shoot can often be dictated by WHEN you schedule your shoot, as weather can play an important roll in what what your photos will look like. If you love Brian's romantic, sun-lit photos it is best to choose a beautiful park (for example) and hour before sunset. If you are looking for beautiful, elegant, formal shoot, inside San Francisco City Hall's grand staircase is a wonderful option.
Some locations, like the beach, are actually better shot in winter months (believe it or not), due to afternoon marine layer that risks clouding the beautiful blue ocean.
Location. Location. Location
That super cute, flirty striped dress you love for summer dates might be great for and afternoon out with friends, but wearing for your engagement shoot takes away from the main event. You and your fiance's emotions, character and love story.
The best idea is to choose two or three simple, elegant, and easy-to-move-in outfits that aren't full of bright, distracting colors and patterns. You can start with a more casual look (nice jeans, sandals and blouse) for the first part of the shoot, and then have a more formal option for when the sun goes down, and the street lights come on.
Be sure both of your outfits look good next to each other. That they compliment each other. Not matching, but complimentary. Lay them on the bed next to each other. Do they look good side-by-side? Are they simple, solid colors?
Less is more
I highly recommend having your hair and makeup professionally done for your pre-wedding shoot.
Often times the person you hired for your wedding day hair and makeup will offer a "free trial" before your wedding as part of their services. This would be a great time to take advantage of that!
